Of all the things that went wrong for the Texas Rangers, the main thing that did go right was Jacob Latz emerging as the team’s closer. He finished with 30 saves, 13 of them requiring four or more outs, and was the Rangers’ main bullpen weapon as they tried to lock up a playoff spot. All of that came after he went to spring training to try to win a spot in the rotation. What does he do for an encore in 2027? How can the Rangers plan out their bullpen this offseason without having to worry about who will finish off games? Latz is going to be around a while, too, as he is just now entering his first season of salary arbitration.
